Learning to Sew Again: Home Decor Edition

It's hard to believe people learned to sew without the internet! Thanks to tutorials online, projects I do solo have been much easier. Awhile back I made my dad a couple curtains, and recently I sewed a few pillows for my nephew's playroom. Both are made from simple quilting cotton. Check out the final results!

Paddington Pillows

My sister picked out this adorable fabric featuring Paddington Bear. This polite little bear is the character in many books by Michael Bond and illustrated by Peggy Fortnum. Though his stories originated in the fifties, and Paddington Bear made his way to TV in the seventies, he has received recent attention when he came to life on the big screen.

So, back to the project! There wasn't a tutorial specific to sewing a simple pillow. Apparently, all the sewists out there believe it's just too easy to make! And well, that really is true. The most time consuming part was measuring and cutting. Sewing it up was a breeze!

Panel Curtains
I used a tutorial from hey, let's make stuff as my guide. I had two windows to cover. The trickiest part about these curtains was that rather than one rod at the top, these had two rods at each end.

Since my dad lives miles away, I had such anxiety about making sure the length between the two rods wasn't too short! I think they worked out perfectly, though. There's something so satisfying about sewing for those you love, don't you think?

Next up is my first dress...Stay tuned!
